Les Cailloux 13th arr Paris, Linguine Citron

Paris. Oh, Paris. There is so much to love about this city and food of course takes center stage. Italian food can be found anywhere. It’s almost as prevalent as Chinese restaurants; a few in every town no matter the size of the town. However, not all Italian food is created equal. In fact, I’d venture to say that over 90% Italian places suck. Yup, 90%. Suck. Hard.

Anyway, I’m not going to go into one of those long diatribes about how food and atmosphere and esthetics and patrons and blah blah blah…no, not this time. Why? It’s good. Just good. Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar and sometimes things should just stand on their own. Les Caillous is one of them. The menu is short. Changes frequently with what’s fresh. Cost is moderate. Portions are adequate unless you’re a pig or have the need to stick it to “the man.”

The place is small and because of the openness it can get really loud, but this only adds to the coziness of the place. It’s located off the main drag and in the heart of the 13th arrondissement on the Left Bank of the River Seine. Being from Portland, OR it’s on the ‘Hipster’ side of things but my Parisian friends didn’t get the Portlandia jokes I was telling them, but I did thank them greatly for taking us to this awesome place. They rub it in from time to time sending me random food porn texts of their journeys and extramarital affairs while we’re away in PDX. I do not mind, for I will return. Fork in hand.
